The Birth of Krishna
According to Hindu mythology,
- Devaki and Vasudeva were imprisoned by Devaki’s brother, King Kansa, after a prophecy declared that her eighth son would bring about his downfall.
- Kansa killed six of Devaki’s children and awaited the eighth.
- When Krishna was born at midnight in Mathura’s prison cell, Vasudeva carried him across the Yamuna River in a basket and left him in the care of Yashoda and Nanda in Vrindavan.
- Krishna grew up in Vrindavan, known for his childhood leelas (divine plays) like stealing butter, playing the flute, and spreading love. Eventually, he killed Kansa, fulfilling the prophecy.
