Bhitarkanika National Park is one of the most famous national parks in India. Known for its rich wildlife, green mangrove forests and peaceful rivers. It is home to many animals like crocodiles, turtles, deer and many birds. The park is also an important place for protecting nature and helping animals live safely. It attracts many tourists, nature lovers and scientists every year.
Bhitarkanika National Park is located in Odisha, in the Kendrapara district. It is in the northeastern part of the state, close to the Bay of Bengal. The park is surrounded by the Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary and nearby is the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary.
The national park covers an area of 145 square kilometers and the surrounding wildlife sanctuary spreads over 672 square kilometers. It became a national park on 16 September 1998 and was declared a Ramsar Wetland Site in 2002. It is the second Ramsar site in Odisha after Chilika Lake.
Bhitarkanika is known for having the second largest mangrove forest in India. Mangroves are special trees that grow in salty water and help protect the coast. These forests are also home to many small and big animals and fish.
