India and Japan signed an MoU to develop scientific collaboration for Indian Ayurveda

India and Japan signed an MoU: The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, and the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU aims to increase academic institutions’ technical capabilities and capacities.

India and Japan signed an MoU: Key Points

  • Studies in design and execution would be part of the joint efforts with the aim of creating evidence-based recommendations.
  • The project is anticipated to combine contemporary medicine with Ayurvedic concepts and practises.
  • It would also entail researching the safety requirements and guidelines for using Ayurveda in Japan.
  • Additionally, a collaborative exchange of scientists, researchers, staff, and students would be done from project to project.

Objective of signing the MoU between India and Japan:

  • The goal is to improve Ayurveda by the use of cutting-edge scientific methods, equipment, and technologies.
  • A joint research effort by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and AIST was carried out even during the COVID-19 pandemic. They conducted study into Ashwagandha’s effectiveness as a COVID-19 inhibitor.
  • AIST and IIT Hyderabad have previously worked together to conduct artificial intelligence research.

AYUSH Ministry initiatives: Key Points

  • AYUSH Ministry oversees the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), which is the premier Ayurvedic institution in India.
  • The AIIA wants to raise the profile of the institute’s research projects both domestically and internationally by signing the MoU with AIST.
  • One of the most well-known and significant public research institutions in Japan is AIST.
  • The goal of AIST is to close the technological innovation-commercialization gap.
  • Both countries will be able to advance their scientific collaboration and capacity building efforts in the field of Indian Ayurvedic medicine through the MoU. The Ministry of Ayush will provide assistance for all of these projects.
  • The European Academy of Ayurveda in Bernstein, Germany; Western Sydney University; Graz Medical University; College of Medical; London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine; and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil are already partners with AIIA under Memorandums of Understanding.
  • Research in the area of Ayurveda is included in the participants’ intended scope of activity.
