India China LAC Talks: 8-Point Consensus to Be Operationalised

India and China will both work on implementing an eight-point agreement that was reached during the 25th meeting of Special Representatives (SR) on the boundary issue. In particular, national security adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi met in Beijing and discussed maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control while improving processes of communication and border governance. Now the next step is to finalize the implementation of the decisions that the Parties reached during the negotiations.

What Was Agreed at Doval-Wang Talks?

The 25th meeting of SRs was held in Beijing on August 25, 2026. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that the Parties reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in border areas and contributing to the agreement of good and stable relations.

India and China agreed to continue negotiations aimed at framework of resolving border issues based on the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles and other understandings reached during the SR meetings.

Separate negotiations will be held on border delimitation and border management by the Expert Group on boundary delimitation and Border Management Working Group to achieve rapid progress and good results in this area.

New Communication Channels along the Line of Actual Control (LAC)

A significant portion of the consensus is dedicated towards avoiding any form of miscommunication and improved military communications.

The two countries agreed to have two additional points for General Level Mechanism/Senior Highest Military Commander talks. They would also set up two additional border military hotline points covering Eastern and Middle Sectors.

Both parties agreed to resolve any situation that occurs on the ground in time by using available diplomatic and military means, including the WMCC and local commander level talks and others.

Border Trade and Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra

There is more cooperation between the two nations in border regions. The Indian government appreciated the move by the Chinese side to have increased batches of Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The two countries also agreed to the opening of three new border trading points and to cooperate further in border trade and pilgrimages and other similar fields.
