India to Host 89th IEC General Meeting in 2025
India is set to host the 89th General Meeting (GM) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) from 15 to 19 September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the summit will bring together over 2,000 global experts from more than 100 countries to deliberate on international electrotechnical standards that will drive a sustainable, all-electric, and connected future. This marks the fourth time India is hosting the IEC General Meeting, previously held in 1960, 1997, and 2013.
The event will be formally inaugurated by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs and New & Renewable Energy. Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, will open the IEC GM Exhibition at Bharat Mandapam, which is expected to be the largest electrotechnical showcase in the country.

India has been designated the Global Secretariat for Standardisation in Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC), a transformative area critical for developing clean and pollution-free energy solutions. This recognition highlights India’s growing role in shaping future-ready, sustainable electrotechnical standards.
Mr. Vimal Mahendru, Vice President of IEC, highlighted that IEC’s membership includes about 170 countries covering 99% of the global population, and their standards influence nearly 20% of global trade by value. India’s leadership in LVDC marks a significant step in the global clean energy transition.
