Indian Army Departs for Multinational Exercise KHAAN QUEST 2024

The Indian Army contingent has embarked on its journey to participate in the multinational military exercise KHAAN QUEST 2024. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place from 27th July to 9th August 2024 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The exercise serves as a platform for military forces worldwide to collaborate and enhance their peacekeeping capabilities.

Background of KHAAN QUEST

Origins and Evolution

KHAAN QUEST has a rich history dating back to 2003. It initially began as a bilateral event between the United States and Mongolian Armed Forces. However, the exercise has grown significantly since its inception:

  • In 2006, KHAAN QUEST evolved into a Multinational Peacekeeping Exercise.
  • The 2024 iteration marks the 21st occurrence of this multinational event.
  • The previous edition was conducted in Mongolia from 19th June to 2nd July 2023.

KHAAN QUEST is annually:

  • Co-sponsored by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command
  • Hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces

Indian Contingent Details

Composition

The Indian Army is sending a robust contingent comprising:

  • 40 personnel in total
  • Troops primarily from a Battalion of the MADRAS REGIMENT
  • Additional personnel from other Arms and Services
  • One Woman Officer and two Women Soldiers, highlighting gender inclusivity

Objectives

The primary aims for the Indian contingent include:

  1. Preparing for peacekeeping missions in multinational environments
  2. Increasing interoperability and military readiness in peace support operations
  3. Focusing on high degree of physical fitness, joint planning, and joint tactical drills

  • Establishment of Static and Mobile Check Points
  • Cordon and Search Operations
  • Patrolling
  • Evacuation of Civilians from Hostile Areas

The exercise will enable participating countries to:

Apart from KHAAN QUEST, India and Mongolia conduct a bilateral military exercise called “Nomadic Elephant”:

  • The 16th edition of Nomadic Elephant was held at the Foreign Training Node, Umroi (Meghalaya) in July 2024.
