Indian Industrialist Shri Ratan Tata appointed in ‘Order of Australia’ for distinguished service

Ratan Tata, an Indian industrialist and philanthropist, has been named an Honorary Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) for his outstanding contributions to the Australia-India bilateral relationship, specifically in the areas of trade, investment, and philanthropy. The announcement was made by Australia’s Governor-General, following a recommendation by Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Barry O’Farrell.

Ratan Tata: one of the richest entrepreneurs in the world:

Ratan Tata, who is the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons and a former Chairman of the Tata Group, is recognized as one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs worldwide, with a net worth exceeding $1 billion as of 2022. Despite his tremendous success, he remains one of India’s most unassuming business leaders. Alongside his business accomplishments, Ratan Tata is renowned for his philanthropy work and motivational speeches.

Ratan Tata: India-Australia Relations:

Ratan Tata has played a crucial role in promoting and strengthening the relationship between Australia and India, demonstrating significant influence in this regard. He has been a vocal proponent of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, which was successfully concluded in 2022, and has lent his support to various delegations of business and government officials visiting India.

Tata and India-Australia cooperation:

Ratan Tata’s advocacy for stronger ties between Australia and India has been both resolute and impactful. He has been a vocal supporter of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, which was ultimately finalized in 2022. Additionally, he has extended his assistance to visiting business and government dignitaries in India, thereby strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been operating in Australia since 1998 and currently has the largest Australian workforce of any Indian company, employing approximately 17,000 staff and associates. In addition to its commercial operations, TCS also actively contributes to the Australian community through a noteworthy pro-bono program. This initiative provides free IT services to six not-for-profit Australian organizations that focus on health and Indigenous leadership.
