Indian men, women bag 4th Asian Kho Kho titles

India emerged as the winners in both men’s and women’s categories at the 4th Asian Kho Kho Championships held in Tamulpur, located in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of north-central Assam’s Baksa district. In the finals, the Indian men’s team beat Nepal by a margin of 6 points and an inning, while the Indian women’s team outscored their Nepalese opponents by 33 points and an inning.

During the semi-finals of the 4th Asian Kho Kho Championships, the Indian men’s team defeated Sri Lanka by 45 points, while Nepal won against Bangladesh by 12 points with 1.5 minutes remaining. The Indian women’s team beat Bangladesh by 49 points and an inning in their semi-final, while Nepal comfortably won against Sri Lanka by 59 points and an inning in the other semi-final. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka shared the third place in both men’s and women’s categories.

About the Asian Kho Kho Championships

The 4th Asian Kho Kho Championships had a total of 16 teams, including both male and female teams, from various countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and host country India. The event was organized by the Kho Kho Federation of India and was hosted by the Assam Kho Kho Association with support from the BTR government and the government of Assam. Around 500 players and officials participated in the event, which was held on mats at the Tamulpur Higher Secondary School ground. The venue had a makeshift indoor stadium with a seating capacity of around 7,000 people. This was the first time the event was held in a semi-rural location, unlike the previous events which were held in urban areas such as Kolkata, Dhaka, and Indore. During the closing ceremony, Ranjana Sarania from Tamulpur, who was part of the Indian women’s team, was felicitated.
