The Indian women’s hockey team has emerged victorious in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023, securing the gold medal for the second time in the competition’s history. The team’s remarkable journey to victory was celebrated and praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The tournament’s final match, which sealed India’s triumphant moment, took place on 5th November 2023, at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Mundra Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi. India displayed exceptional prowess by defeating Japan 4-0 in the final match.
In a thrilling showdown, Indian women’s hockey team, displayed impeccable skills and teamwork to outclass Japan with a score of 4-0. This victory marked India’s second gold medal in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, with their previous win occurring in 2016.
India’s remarkable goal-scoring prowess was recognized with the Maximum Team Goals Award. They scored an impressive 27 goals in seven games, showcasing the team’s offensive capabilities. Their solid defense, which only conceded two goals from penalty corners and no field goals, further emphasized their well-rounded skill set.
In recognition of their exceptional performance throughout the tournament, Hockey India announced a reward of Rs.3 lakh for each member of the Indian team and Rs.1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff. This gesture underscores the significance of the team’s victory and the dedication of both the players and support staff.
