India’s First Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) To Be Launched In UP

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is all set to mark a historic moment in India’s transportation landscape as he inaugurates the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor and simultaneously launches the RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to the Duhai Depot, symbolizing the beginning of RRTS operations in India. The event will take place at the Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh on October 20, 2023.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will dedicate two stretches of the east-west corridor of the Bengaluru Metro to the nation.

Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor

The priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, spanning 17 kilometers, is a significant development in India’s transportation infrastructure. This section will connect Sahibabad to the ‘Duhai Depot,‘ with stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Duhai along the way. It’s worth noting that the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor was laid by the Prime Minister on March 8, 2019.

The Vision and Innovation Behind the RRTS Project

This project aligns perfectly with Prime Minister Modi’s vision to revolutionize regional connectivity through the creation of world-class transport infrastructure. The RRTS is designed as a new rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit system. With a remarkable design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, RRTS aims to provide high-speed trains for intercity commuting every 15 minutes, with the potential to increase frequency to as often as every 5 minutes, depending on demand.

Prioritizing RRTS Corridors in India’s National Capital Region

In the National Capital Region (NCR), a total of eight RRTS corridors have been identified for development, three of which have been prioritized for Phase-I implementation. These three corridors include the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar Corridor, and Delhi-Panipat Corridor. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is being developed at a cost exceeding Rs 30,000 crore, and it will reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to less than an hour, passing through urban centers like Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.

India’s Cutting-Edge RRTS System and Its Multifaceted Benefits

The RRTS system being developed in India is state-of-the-art, on par with the best in the world. It promises safe, reliable, and modern intercity commuting solutions for the country. In line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the RRTS network will have extensive multi-modal integration with railway stations, metro stations, bus services, and more.

Regional Mobility’s Impact on Economic Growth, Access, and Sustainability

These transformative regional mobility solutions will stimulate economic activity in the region, improve access to employment, education, and healthcare opportunities, and contribute significantly to the reduction of vehicular congestion and air pollution.

Bengaluru Metro

In addition to the inauguration of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, Prime Minister Modi will formally dedicate two stretches of the Bengaluru Metro to the nation. These stretches connect Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura and Kengeri to Challaghatta.

These metro stretches began providing public service from October 9, 2023, without waiting for a formal inauguration, aimed at enhancing the convenience of public transportation in the region.
