India’s Samriddh Gram Initiative Nominated for WSIS Prizes 2026 Under Enabling Environment Category
Samriddh Gram Initiative of India which led by Department of Telecommunications has selected as a nominee for the WSIS Prizes 2026 for the enabling environment category. This recognition highlights the India’s growing leadership in using the digital infrastructure to transform the rural communities. This initiative is built on the backbone of the BharatNet which is the world’s largest rural broadband network. Also the initiative focuses on to delivering the integrated services through the unique ‘phygital’ approach which means that to blend the physical infrastructure with digital technology to improve the accessibility and livelihoods in villages.
The central part of the initiative are the Samriddhi Kendras which function as the one-stop service hubs in rural areas. These centers are designed to bring the multiple essential services under the one roof along with to leveraging the high-speed internet connectivity.
From these Kendras the villagers can access services such as the healthcare consultations, online education, government schemes, banking facilities and the e-commerce platforms. The availability of the FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) connections and the public Wi-Fi have ensures that digital services can reach even remote locations efficiently.
