INS TABAR ARRIVES IN HAMBURG, GERMANY

Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar arrived at Hamburg, Germany on 17 July 24 for a three day visit. It will participate in a exercise. During the visit, activities will include professional exchanges between the Indian and German Navies, tours of the German Naval Academy, and public visits to the ship. The crew of INS Tabar will also engage in community service

About INS TABAR

INS Tabar (F44)  called as “battle axe” is the third of the Talwar-class frigate of the Indian Navy. The frigate was commissioned on 19 April 2004 in Kaliningrad, Russia with Captain (later Vice Admiral) Biswajit Dasgupta. The current Commanding Officer (CO) of INS Tabar is Captain Mahesh Mangipudi.

  • INS Tabar reached her home-port of Mumbai on 31 July 2004. Along with her sister ships INS Talwar (“sword” in Sanskrit) and INS Trishul (“trident” in Sanskrit), INS Tabar is assigned to Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command, head-quartered in Mumbai.
  • INS Tabar is a well-equipped warship that has the ability to handle air/surface/sub-surface missions or defending herself operating either independently on maritime missions or supporting a larger naval task force.

INS TABAR built for the Indian Navy in Russia

INS Tabar, is a stealth frigate built for the Indian Navy in Russia. The ship is commanded by Captain MR Harish.  The ship is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors and is among the earliest stealth frigates of the Indian Navy. The ship is part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet which is based at Mumbai under the Western Naval Command.

Recent activity of INS TABAR

In recent times, the ship has visited various ports of the Persian Gulf on a goodwill mission and the visit was highly successful. The ship also participated in the International Fleet Review at Visakhapatnam. It recently visited Port Louis to participate in the Mauritius National Day celebrations.

Indo- German relationship

India and Germany share a relationship built on a foundation of shared values, democratic principles and a commitment to global peace and security. The relations between both countries span across various domains, from economic cooperation and scientific research to cultural exchanges and, importantly, defence collaboration. The visit by INS Tabar further aims to strengthen these bonds and also explore newer avenues of bolstering the relationship between the two Navies.

Community service at Old Age Home

Activities during the visit include professional interactions between the Indian Navy and German Navy, visit of ship’s crews to the German Naval Academy and ship open to visitors. The crew of INS Tabar would also offer community service at Old Age Home. On departure from Hamburg, the two Navies will also undertake Maritime Partnership Exercise at sea.

Opportunity to showcase Indian culture

These engagements seek to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the maritime domain between both countries and also offer an opportunity to showcase Indian culture.
