ISL 2023-24: Mumbai City FC Clinches Second Title
In a thrilling final match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata, Mumbai City FC emerged victorious over Mohun Bagan Super Giant with a scoreline of 3-1, securing their second Indian Super League (ISL) title. This victory marked a historic moment for Mumbai City FC, who had previously clinched their inaugural title in the 2020-21 season, also against Mohun Bagan.
Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Bipin Singh, and Jakub Vojtus were the heroes for Mumbai City FC, each contributing crucial goals in the final match. On the opposing side, Jason Cumming managed to score the solitary goal for Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
As champions, Mumbai City FC walked away with a substantial prize of Rs 6 crore, while the runners-up, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, received Rs 3 crore in prize money.
The awards ceremony saw the recognition of standout performers throughout the season. Notable awardees included Dimitrios Petratos of Mohun Bagan, who claimed the Golden Ball for Best Player, and Dimitrios Diamantakos from Kerala Blasters, who secured the Golden Boot with an impressive tally of 13 goals. Mumbai City FC’s Phurba Lachenpa was honored with the Golden Glove for Best Goalkeeper, while Vikram Pratap Singh of Mumbai City FC was named the Emerging Player of the League.
Aside from individual accolades, Jamshedpur FC was lauded for having the Best Pitch, FC Goa received the Grassroots Award, and Bengaluru FC was recognized for the Best Elite Youth Program.
The Indian Super League stands as the premier professional men’s football club tournament in India, endorsed by FIFA and the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Established in 2014, the league boasts the participation of 12 city-based football clubs, fostering a vibrant football culture across the nation.
