Background of the GP Birla Memorial Award

The GP Birla Memorial Award, formerly known as the Lifetime Achievement Award, commemorates Ghanshyamdas (GP) Birla, a visionary industrialist and philanthropist.
It is conferred by the GP Birla Archaeological Astronomical and Scientific Institute, chaired by Nirmala Birla.
The award celebrates contributions to science, education, astronomy, and public service, and has been given to eminent national and international figures.

About Dr. V. Narayanan

Dr. Narayanan has had a long and impactful career in ISRO, particularly in the field of cryogenic propulsion technology.
Prior to becoming ISRO Chairman, he served as Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC).
Under his leadership, India successfully tested and integrated complex propulsion systems in missions like Gaganyaan, Chandrayaan-3, and Aditya-L1.
