ISRO Chief Inaugurates Ananth Centre of Excellence for Navigation, India’s First Private Navigation Centre

India has taken a big step towards self-reliance in high-tech navigation systems. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan inaugurated Ananth Centre of Excellence for Navigation (ACEN) in Thiruvananthapuram. This is India’s first private-sector navigation innovation hub, started by Ananth Technologies.

Why this Centre is Important?

Navigation technology plays a major role in the success of missiles, aircraft, ships, satellites, and many modern machines. India has learned from past situations that depending on foreign GPS systems can be risky, especially during conflicts. ACEN aims to solve this problem by helping India build its own strong navigation systems.

About Ananth Technologies

Ananth Technologies was founded in 1992. The company has supported many important ISRO and DRDO missions. It is known for making precision sensors, working on airworthiness certifications, and helping in satellite and launch vehicle integration.

The Problem of Foreign Dependence

Many defence navigation systems in India are still repaired or maintained by foreign manufacturers. This means that when a navigation unit fails, India has to send it abroad for repairs, which causes delays and affects defence readiness.

How ACEN will Help?

The new ACEN centre will focus on:

  • Indigenous development of navigation sensors
  • AI-based navigation fusion technology
  • Better use of India’s own NavIC system
  • Complete MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) work inside India

This will save a lot of money, reduce delays, and make India technologically independent.

Supports India’s Vision 2025

India’s Vision 2035 aims to make the country fully capable in all areas of navigation—defence, space, and civilian sectors.

ACEN perfectly fits this plan by encouraging teamwork between:

  • Industry
  • Scientists
  • Universities
  • Defence and space agencies

Boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat

Having strong, home-grown navigation systems is essential for national security and economic growth. By 2035, India targets to build globally competitive and fully trusted navigation systems. This centre will reduce imports, encourage local production, and support Atmanirbhar Bharat.

ISRO Chairman’s Message

ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan said that private companies like Ananth Technologies will greatly speed up India’s progress in navigation technology. He believes that such initiatives will help India achieve self-reliance and advanced tech leadership by 2047.
