The 12th edition of the eagerly awaited Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta concluded at Ettikulam Beach, INA, Ezhimala. The event concluded with a glittering closing ceremony, celebrating the triumphs and sportsmanship displayed by sailors from around the world.
The Admiral’s Cup witnessed thrilling and competitive sailing races in Laser Radials boats from December 5 to December 8, 2023. A total of 43 participants, including eight female sailors, showcased their sailing skills in challenging wind and weather conditions, pushing the limits of their boats over the four days of intense competition.
The top honor of the Admiral’s Cup 23 went to Team Italy, represented by Midshipman Avallone Antonio and Midshipman Creati Carlo Leonardo. Their exceptional sailing skills and strategic prowess secured the coveted Admiral’s Cup for Italy.
Team India, led by Midshipman PPK Reddy and Cadet GY Reddy, emerged as the Runners-Up, showcasing their talent and determination on the challenging waters. Their commendable performance added to the nation’s pride.
Team United Kingdom, represented by Officer Cadet Lucy Bell and Midshipman Aaron Middleton, and Team Germany, represented by Cadet Beckman Carl and Cadet Hinz Anton, shared the third position. The joint effort demonstrated the international camaraderie at the heart of the Admiral’s Cup.
Seaman Gorkunov Petr from Russia claimed the top spot in the individual standings in the men’s category, showcasing his sailing prowess. Midshipman Avallone Antonio from Italy and Midshipman PPK Reddy from India secured the second and third positions, respectively.
In the women’s category, Officer Cadet Lucy Bell from the United Kingdom took the lead in the individual standings. She was followed by Cadet Sangla Elma Salsadila from Indonesia and Cadet Jhanvi Singh from India, securing the second and third positions, respectively.
VAdm Puneet K Bahl, Commandant of INA, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. He presented the prestigious Admiral’s Cup, the Runners-Up trophy, and individual prizes to the deserving winners, adding a touch of honor and recognition to the event.
The Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta 2023 drew participants from 20 countries, featuring Indian teams from INA and NDA, Khadakvasla. Beyond racing, it promoted cultural exchange. Visiting teams explored INA facilities, trekked Mount Dilli, and engaged in a cultural package spotlighting India’s traditions, languages, culture, dance, and art forms, fostering a spirit of camaraderie.
