IWF chooses Mohammed Jalood as President 2022

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) believes that substantial progress has been made in enhancing the culture and leadership of the sport. Mohammed Jalood has been elected as the organization’s president, and 11 additional new members have been added to its Executive Board, according to a press release from Tirana, Albania, which hosted both the Special & Electoral Congress and the recently concluded European Weightlifting Championships.

• Many of the member federations, who have long called for renewal and change inside the organisation, will, according to the IWF, be satisfied by a change in leadership.
• The 12 new members of the Executive Board constitute a 66 percent change in staffing overall, despite the IWF’s emphasis on the necessity of maintaining “seasoned leadership” during this transitional phase.
• The minimum quota for women was “significantly exceeded,” and three Athlete Representatives were appointed with full voting privileges.
• Quinones was inadvertently named general secretary as a result of a voting mistake in Tirana.
• Quinones, who has indicated interest in the IWF holding a recount, may have been chosen inadvertently as the winner due to a rounding error in the vote-counting process.
