Japan-India Maritime Exercise JIMEX-24 Kicks Off in Yokosuka

The 8th edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX-24) has commenced at Yokosuka, Japan, hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF). Indian Navy’s INS Shivalik and Japan’s JS Yugiri are participating.

Exercise Overview

JIMEX-24 comprises both harbour and sea phases. The harbour phase aims to enhance interaction between sailors of both navies, fostering stronger bonds. The sea phase focuses on testing warfighting skills and improving interoperability through multi-domain operations.

Participation and Aim

INS Shivalik represents the Indian Navy, while JS Yugiri represents JMSDF. The exercise aims to learn from each other’s best practices, facilitate operational interactions, and reaffirm shared commitments to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Background on Military Exercises

India and Japan conduct various military exercises, including JIMEX for naval cooperation, DHARMA GUARDIAN for army collaboration, and Veer Guardian for air force coordination. These exercises signify the growing defense relationship between the two countries.
