The government announced Justice Bahri’s new role on February 2, 2024. She takes over from the previous Chief Justice, Vipin Sanghi, who retired. Before this, she was the Acting Chief Justice in Punjab and Haryana. The Supreme Court said she should get this job on November 2, 2023, which is a big deal.
Justice Bahri was born in Jalandhar, Punjab, into a family famous for being great lawyers. She went to Carmel Convent School, studied Economics in Chandigarh, and then studied law at Punjab University. This background helped her become a strong lawyer.
She became a lawyer in 1986 and worked her way up to some big roles in Haryana before becoming a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2010. Her career shows she’s very good at what she does.
The Uttarakhand High Court started the same time the state was made in 2000. Now, Justice Bahri is starting a new chapter there as Chief Justice. She’s known for her smart thinking and understanding of law, which makes her a great leader for the court.
