Killai Becomes Tamil Nadu's First Climate-Resilient Village
Tamil Nadu’s the Killai village in Cuddalore being recognized as the first Climate-Resilient Village in the state. Killai village, located in the vicinity of the ecologically-rich Pichavaram Mangrove Forest, is using a community-based approach for tackling the increasing dangers of cyclones, floods, coastal erosion, rising sea levels, and saltwater intrusion. The project of Killai combines the principles of scientific planning, ecosystem conservation, resilient development of infrastructure, and involvement of people in their implementation in order to increase climate resilience and maintain the means of living.
