The station is part of the West Central Railway Zone and connects to major cities like Bhopal, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Nagpur. Due to its central location, it plays a crucial role in railway transportation across the country.
Itarsi Junction has eight platforms and eleven tracks to manage the heavy traffic of trains. The platforms are well-maintained and provide all necessary facilities for passengers. The station also has foot overbridges for easy movement between platforms.
