The ruling political party in each state appoints the CM. The Chief Minister (CM) is the elected head of a state’s government in India. Each of the 28 states and some Union Territories (Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry) have a Chief Minister. The Chief Minister is appointed by the governor and leads the state’s administration. They form policies, manage governance and oversee government officials. A CM serves as for five years but can be re-elected multiple times.
