Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to Lead Indian Delegation to BRICS Parliamentary Forum
Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, will head a prominent Indian parliamentary delegation to the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia. The forum aims to explore the role of parliaments in advancing global development and security through multilateral cooperation.
The Indian delegation includes Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Rajya Sabha member Shambhu Sharan Patel, Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh, and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody.
The forum’s theme is ‘The Role of Parliaments in Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security’.
Om Birla is scheduled to engage with members of the Indian Diaspora in Moscow during his visit.
Members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa.
Formation: Originally BRIC, formed in 2001 with South Africa joining in 2010.
Purpose: Promotes cooperation in economic growth, development, and global governance reforms.
