Madhya Pradesh Signs MoU with Digital India BHASHINI to Boost Multilingual AI Governance

India’s push for inclusive and technology-driven governance received a major boost as Madhya Pradesh partnered with the Digital India BHASHINI Division. The collaboration focuses on integrating multilingual and voice-based AI solutions into government platforms, ensuring that digital services reach citizens across linguistic and regional boundaries. The agreement reflects India’s broader vision of using artificial intelligence to make governance more accessible and citizen-centric.

Why in News?

The Government of Madhya Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to integrate multilingual AI-powered language technologies into state government digital platforms.

MoU Signed at Regional AI Impact Conference 2026

  • The MoU was signed during the Madhya Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 held in Bhopal.
  • The conference was organized by the state’s Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission.
  • The event brought together policymakers, startups, industry leaders, academia, and central agencies to deliberate on inclusive and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in governance.

Vision of Madhya Pradesh

  • The conference was inaugurated by Mohan Yadav, who highlighted the state’s vision of citizen-centric AI governance.
  • He announced that Madhya Pradesh will soon introduce a State AI Policy in mission mode, signalling a structured and long-term approach to AI adoption.
  • He emphasized that multilingual platforms like BHASHINI are essential for extending AI-led governance to diverse linguistic communities across the state.

Role of BHASHINI in the Partnership

  • Under the MoU, BHASHINI will enable multilingual digital governance by integrating its language technologies, translation APIs, and AI powered tools across Madhya Pradesh’s digital platforms.
  • This will allow citizens to access public services in multiple Indian languages.
  • The partnership also supports voice-first AI solutions, which are especially important for improving accessibility for rural populations, elderly citizens, and those with limited digital literacy.

Strengthening Accessibility

  • The collaboration aims to strengthen inclusivity and last-mile service delivery.
  • By embedding Indian languages into digital public services, the initiative ensures that language does not become a barrier to accessing government schemes and information.
  • This aligns with BHASHINI’s national mandate of making linguistic diversity a core strength of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

What is BHASHINI?

  • BHASHINI is a national digital platform under the Digital India programme that aims to provide AI based language translation and voice solutions in Indian languages.
  • It supports text-to-text, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and speech-to-speech translation, enabling multilingual access to digital services across India.
