Minerva Academy Wins Historic European Treble in Youth Football

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, felicitated the young footballers of Minerva Academy Football Club (Mohali) in New Delhi. The team recently achieved a rare and unprecedented feat in global youth football by securing a European treble—winning the Gothia Cup (Sweden), Dana Cup (Denmark), and Norway Cup (Norway) in a single season. Calling it a “new beginning for Indian football”, Dr. Mandaviya praised the players’ passion, resilience, and commitment to excellence.

A Historic European Treble

The U-14/15 squad of Minerva Academy FC, comprising 22 players, created history during July–August 2025 by emerging victorious in three of the world’s most prestigious youth football tournaments,

  1. Gothia Cup (Sweden) – Known as the “Youth World Cup”
  2. Dana Cup (Denmark)
  3. Norway Cup (Norway)

In an astonishing run of 26 unbeaten international matches, the team scored 295 goals, conceding only a handful. Their performance included victories over youth clubs from top footballing nations such as Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and Spain.

During the Gothia Cup final, Minerva defeated Argentina’s Escuela de Football 18 Tucumán by 4–0, a match that underscored their tactical discipline and attacking prowess.

Individual Achievements

Two players stood out with notable personal accolades,

  • Konthoujam Yohenba Singh – Named Best Player at the Gothia Cup 2025
  • Huidrom Tony – Awarded Best Player at the Dana Cup 2025
  • These honours not only mark individual brilliance but also highlight the talent emerging from India’s grassroots football structure.

Government Recognition and Support

During the felicitation, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of this achievement for the future of Indian football. He noted that,

  • Youth development, sports science, mental resilience, and nutrition must now become central to India’s sports strategy.
  • Athletes must carry the spirit of “Nation First” in every global tournament.
  • Continued support from initiatives like Khelo India will be vital in building a sustainable sports ecosystem.

The Union Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s growing interest in nurturing young sports talent and positioning India as a serious contender on international sports platforms.
