Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice Chancellor, Professor Najma Akhtar, was recently presented ‘Lifetime Achievement Award-Academia. The award was presented to her by Dr Raghunath Anant Mashelkar (Padma Vibhushan) at the Grand Conference and award function titled “Making India Employable” was organised by TeamLease EdTech. Akhtar was selected for the award by a jury panel comprising of educationists and industry experts. She has been awarded for her “great efforts to connect education to employment,”.
Under her leadership, JMI retained third position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2023) rankings for the university category for the second consecutive year. In other news, a six-member team comprising engineering students of JMI won the Kavach 2023, a 36-hour cyber security hackathon, conducted by the ministry of home affairs and ministry of education from August 8 to 9. The university also congratulated three alumni, Amit Kumar Bhardwaj, Mohmmad Kashif and Areeb Ahmad, who were part of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 team that made history by soft landing on moon’s south pole.
The ‘Making India Employable Awards’ is organised to celebrate individualistic excellence, innovation and real-world impact in the fields of education, employability and skilling. “These awards are bestowed on the very best of the best who showcase exemplary contributions towards the common goal of Making India Employable.” In May, the University Placement Cell (UPC) conducted a job cum internship fair “Career Connect” called Job Utsav wherein 2,000 students from different departments registered. In the first round, 500 students were selected for further rounds of the fair.
