Nayab Singh Saini, an influential leader from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Haryana. The decision was announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after Manohar Lal Khattar, the outgoing Chief Minister and his entire cabinet stepped down.
Saini, the sitting Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra, has been associated with the BJP since 1996. He has held various organizational roles within the party and has steadily progressed through significant positions. In 2014, Saini was elected as an MLA from the Narayangarh constituency, and in 2016, he was appointed as a minister in the Haryana government.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Saini secured a resounding victory from the Kurukshetra constituency, defeating his closest rival from the Indian National Congress by a substantial margin. His electoral success and support base within the OBC community are considered crucial factors in his appointment as the new Chief Minister.
Saini’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to consolidate its support among the OBC community, which constitutes a significant voter base in the state. Additionally, Saini is known to be a confidante of the outgoing Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, further strengthening his position within the party.
Nayab Singh Saini is scheduled to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Haryana at 5 pm today. The BJP leadership hopes that his appointment will help the party maintain its grip on the state and garner support from the OBC community in future elections.
