NCGG Completes 34th Training for Maldivian Civil Servants, Boosting Indo-Maldivian Ties

The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has successfully concluded its 34th Capacity Building Programme (CBP) for Maldivian civil servants in New Delhi. Held from October 14–25, 2024, this two-week program, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), represents the second initiative under a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Maldives’ Foreign Minister Mr. Moosa Zameer. The MoU, effective from 2024 to 2029, aims to train 1,000 Maldivian civil servants, reinforcing India’s commitment to enhancing governance across the Maldives.

Valedictory Session Highlights

During the valedictory session, Shri V. Srinivas, NCGG’s Director General, highlighted India’s success in integrating technology into governance, using Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Aadhaar, and other digital solutions to improve healthcare, education, and administrative transparency. Maldivian civil servants, representing various government sectors, also shared key presentations on technology-driven governance, school education improvements, and collaborative Indo-Maldivian relations.

Delegates’ Perspectives and Programme Objectives

Fathimath Hilmy, head of the Maldivian delegation, expressed gratitude for the valuable insights gained. Course Coordinator Dr. B.S. Bisht outlined the program’s focus on sharing India’s good governance models, particularly in development schemes, with the goal of equipping Maldivian participants to enhance administrative efficiency and transparency in their own government systems.

Exposure Visits and Cultural Exchange

The second week included visits to India’s premier institutions, such as the Forest Research Institute, AIIMS, the National Science Institute, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, PM Sangrahalaya, and the Taj Mahal, exposing participants to India’s governance structures, sustainable development efforts, and cultural heritage.
