NHAI Sets Four Guinness World Records on Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Corridor

India’s highway construction sector has achieved a global milestone with record-breaking infrastructure execution. The National Highways Authority of India has set multiple Guinness World Records during the construction of a major economic corridor in southern India. These achievements highlight India’s growing engineering capacity, efficiency in project execution, and commitment to world-class road infrastructure.

Why in the News?

The National Highways Authority of India created four Guinness World Records during construction work on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor of NH-544G. The records were achieved in Andhra Pradesh, near Puttaparthi, in January 2026.

First Two Guinness World Records Achieved

On January 6, NHAI set two global records within 24 hours on the corridor. The first was for the longest continuous laying of Bituminous Concrete, covering a 3-lane-wide stretch of 9.63 kilometres. The second record was for laying the highest quantity of Bituminous Concrete – 10,655 metric tonnes in 24 hours. These were the first such records globally under a six-lane national highway project.

Two More Records Add to the Achievement

Building on this momentum, NHAI achieved two additional Guinness World Records. These include the continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of Bituminous Concrete and the continuous paving of a 3-lane-wide, 52-kilometre-long stretch. Together, these records demonstrate exceptional coordination, mechanisation, and round-the-clock execution capacity.

About the Economic Corridor

The corridor is a 343 kilometre-long, access-controlled six-lane highway designed for safe, high speed, and scenic travel. It aims to significantly reduce travel time, improve logistics efficiency, and strengthen economic integration between Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and surrounding regions. As an economic corridor, it supports industrial growth, trade, and regional development.

Role of NHAI

The National Highways Authority of India functions under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of national highways. In recent years, NHAI has focused on expressways, economic corridors, access-controlled highways, and use of modern construction technologies to meet India’s infrastructure ambitions.
