Operation Nader and Anti-Terror Operations in Jammu & Kashmir
In May 2025, Indian security forces carried out several important anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. These operations were launched in response to recent terrorist attacks and based on specific intelligence inputs. The forces involved were the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). These actions show India’s firm approach to tackling terrorism.
On the morning of 15 May 2025, a joint operation was launched in the Nader area of Tral in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was based on intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.
During the operation, security forces noticed suspicious movement. When they challenged the suspects, the terrorists opened heavy fire. A fierce gunfight followed. The operation is still going on. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army shared this update on social media.
Two days earlier, on 13 May, another major operation was carried out in the Keller Forest area of Shopian district.
Based on inputs from intelligence agencies, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a joint search. In the gunfight that followed, three terrorists were killed, including a local commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF).
Security forces recovered weapons including AK-series rifles, a large amount of ammunition, grenades, and other war-like items.
Before these incidents, Indian forces also carried out a major cross-border strike called Operation Sindoor. This was aimed at destroying terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In this operation, nearly 100 terrorists were eliminated. The strikes targeted major terror bases including Bhawalpur (headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed) and Muridke (a major base of Lashkar-e-Taiba). These precise strikes were a big success for Indian defence forces.
The recent rise in terrorist activity was highlighted by the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed. The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.
This incident increased the urgency of the anti-terror operations in the region.
