P. V. Sindhu Gets Voting Role in BWF Council, Becomes Voice of Athletes in Global Badminton

The Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu has taken the new step beyond its association with badminton court by joining the top decision-making body. After she was  elected as the Chair of the Athletes Commission and she has now assumed the full voting role in to the Badminton World Federation Council. This will marks the rare and powerful moment where an currently active elite athlete gets the direct say in shaping the future of global badminton.

P.V. Sindhu Joins BWF Council as Voting Member

P. V. Sindhu has officially became part of the Badminton World Federation Council after the completion of the formal vetting process in late 2025.

She made her first appearance at the BWF Annual General Meeting in Horsens.

It also have representing the athletes at the highest governance level.

As a voting member she will now actively participate in to the decisions which influence the global direction of badminton.

What Role Will Sindhu Play in BWF Council?

The BWF Council is the top governing body which is responsible for to shaping the policies and strategies for badminton worldwide.

Sindhu’s responsibilities include to,

  • Participating in to the key decision-making processes.
  • Will representing the interests of the players globally.
  • And contributing to the policy and development strategies.

Her presence will ensures the athletes voices are directly included in to the governance.

Why This Appointment is Historic

Her entry into the BWF Council is particularly important because it is rare for an active player to hold the voting position. It will also bridges the gap between players and administrators and it will strengthens the athlete representation in global sports governance.

This move will sets the example for the greater inclusion of athletes in decision-making bodies.

The BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul has welcomed the Sindhu’s appointment and it have highlighted the importance of the athlete representation.
