PM Modi Launches ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’

In a significant push to strengthen India’s agricultural backbone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 12, 2025, launched two flagship schemes — PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses — along with laying the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹42,000 crore in agriculture and allied sectors. These initiatives aim to enhance crop productivity, promote self-reliance in pulses, and uplift 100 underperforming districts across the country.

PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

Objectives and Scope

  • With an outlay of ₹24,000 crore over six years, this scheme focuses on transforming 100 agriculturally lagging districts.
  • It brings together 36 existing schemes across 11 ministries, creating a unified strategy to boost agricultural productivity and rural prosperity.

Key goals include,

  • Improving irrigation infrastructure
  • Encouraging crop diversification
  • Enhancing access to agricultural credit
  • Strengthening post-harvest storage
  • Monitoring outcomes through 117 district-level indicators

Implementation

Each selected district will have a District Agriculture Plan tailored to local conditions, with community input. Implementation will be reviewed monthly using digital dashboards, ensuring transparency and course correction.

Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses

Key Features

This six-year mission has a funding of ₹11,440 crore and targets production of 350 lakh tonnes of pulses by 2030–31. It aims to reduce India’s heavy reliance on pulse imports by boosting domestic supply through,

  • Distribution of 88 lakh free seed kits
  • Establishment of 1000 new processing units
  • Expansion of cultivation of Tur, Urad, and Masoor
  • MSP-based procurement through tie-ups with agencies like NAFED and NCCF

Why Pulses?

  • Pulses are crucial for protein security, especially among India’s lower-income groups. Despite being the world’s largest producer, India still imports a large portion of its pulse needs.
  • This mission will also support farmers through assured markets and modern farming support.

Transformational Goals

Together, these schemes are designed to,

  • Uplift farmers in backward agri-regions
  • Ensure food and nutrition security
  • Promote climate-resilient, sustainable agriculture
  • Integrate farmers into modern value chains

Broader Agricultural Achievements

During the launch, PM Modi highlighted how India’s agricultural sector has transformed since 2014,

  • Foodgrain output has risen by 90 million metric tonnes
  • Fruit and vegetable production has grown by over 640 lakh metric tonnes
  • Milk: India is now the largest producer globally
  • Fisheries: India is the second-largest fish producer
  • Over 25 crore Soil Health Cards have been distributed

The agriculture budget has grown significantly and MSP for Rabi crops has been increased
