PM Narendra Modi Chairs 49th PRAGATI Meeting

On 24 September 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 49th meeting of PRAGATI—an ICT-enabled multi-modal platform designed for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation. The initiative connects the Centre and States, aiming to fast-track key development projects, resolve bottlenecks efficiently, and ensure on-time delivery of public assets. At this latest session, the Prime Minister reviewed eight major infrastructure projects in sectors such as Mines, Railways, Water Resources, Industrial Corridors, and Power.

Understanding PRAGATI

  • PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation) is a digital platform developed by the Prime Minister’s Office.
  • It facilitates real-time monitoring and coordination between the central government and state administrations to streamline complex infrastructure and public service projects.
  • The platform allows for direct interaction between the PM and state officials, helping break through bureaucratic delays and inter-departmental friction.
  • It has become an essential governance tool to ensure that critical national projects do not get stalled and that citizens receive intended benefits without undue delay.

Highlights of the 49th Meeting

Project Overview

The Prime Minister reviewed eight large-scale infrastructure projects that collectively represent a ₹65,000 crore investment. These projects are spread across 15 States and UTs, touching diverse geographical and socio-economic regions. The sectors include,

  • Mining projects aimed at boosting resource efficiency
  • Railway infrastructure to improve connectivity and logistics
  • Water resource projects to enhance irrigation and urban supply
  • Industrial corridors to facilitate manufacturing and exports
  • Power sector initiatives to meet growing energy demands

The PM focused on the following priorities during the meeting,

  • Timely Execution: Setting and adhering to clear milestones for all projects.
  • Coordinated Approach: Strengthening inter-agency cooperation across Central and State authorities.
  • Resolving Bottlenecks: Immediate redressal of issues such as land acquisition, environmental clearances, or regulatory hurdles.
  • Result-Oriented Governance: Shifting from process-based bureaucracy to outcome-based project delivery.

Governance, Growth & Public Impact

Infrastructure as a Growth Driver

  • Efficient infrastructure remains a cornerstone of India’s economic development.
  • Projects in railways, energy, mining, and industrial corridors stimulate employment, enable smoother logistics, attract foreign investment, and raise the overall quality of life.

Stronger Centre-State Coordination

  • The PRAGATI model underscores the significance of collaborative federalism in India’s development framework.
  • It provides a direct interface between decision-makers, allowing for faster resolution of issues that would otherwise take months in bureaucratic cycles.

Citizen-Centric Governance

  • Faster project completion ensures that citizens receive timely access to infrastructure and services, whether it’s better transportation, reliable electricity, or improved water supply.
  • Delays, in contrast, create gaps in service delivery and escalate costs—burdening the economy and the public.
