President Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates Digital House Of Gujarat Assembly

President Droupadi Murmu officially unveiled the Gujarat legislative assembly’s Digital House project, National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), in Gandhinagar. The launch ceremony was graced by the distinguished presence of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. This endeavor draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary concept of ‘One Nation, One Application’ and signifies a substantial leap towards achieving a completely paperless Assembly process.

The NeVA Project: Revolutionizing Legislative Work

The National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), a Unicode-compliant software, has been developed by the Union Parliamentary Affairs Ministry with the primary goal of making all legislative work and data available online for both citizens and Assembly members. NeVA encompasses a user-friendly website and a mobile app, simplifying access to a plethora of documents, including the list of questions, business agendas, and reports, among others.

A Growing Network: Expanding NeVA’s Reach

As of now, 21 State legislatures have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of NeVA. Impressively, the project has been sanctioned for 17 legislatures, with funds readily allocated for its implementation. Among these, nine legislatures have already transitioned into a fully digital and paperless mode, actively conducting all their legislative business end-to-end on the NeVA platform.

Benefits of Going Digital: Transforming Governance

The adoption of NeVA brings numerous advantages to the forefront:

Environmental Conservation: The move towards a paperless legislative process significantly reduces the consumption of paper, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Enhanced Accessibility: NeVA makes legislative information easily accessible to both citizens and Assembly members, promoting transparency and accountability.

Efficiency and Productivity: The digital platform streamlines legislative proceedings, reducing administrative bottlenecks and enhancing overall productivity.

Cost Savings: With reduced paper usage and streamlined processes, the government can achieve cost savings over time.

Real-time Updates: NeVA provides real-time updates and notifications, ensuring that members are always informed about the latest developments.

Secure Data Handling: The software incorporates robust security measures to safeguard sensitive legislative data.

‘One Nation, One Application’: A Vision Turned Reality

The core concept of NeVA aligns perfectly with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Application.’ This vision aims to prioritize a ‘Cloud First‘ and ‘Mobile First‘ approach, with a primary focus on serving Members FIRST. Prime Minister Modi initially proposed the idea of a ‘One Nation, One Legislative Platform’ in November 2021, emphasizing the need for seamless digital integration across the country.
