Legendary sprinter and current President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, was honoured with the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award. This accolade was presented to her by the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) and Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA), recognizing her extraordinary contributions to Indian athletics. The award ceremony saw the attendance of notable personalities, including Rajeev Shukla, Member of Parliament – Rajya Sabha and Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and former Indian shooter Jaspal Rana, among the Guests of Honour.
PT Usha, often hailed as the “Queen of Indian track and field,” was presented with a medallion, a citation, and a memento, signifying the high esteem in which she is held for her stellar sporting career. This event not only celebrated her achievements but also highlighted the legacy she has built over the years, inspiring countless athletes across the nation.
Usha becomes the fifth eminent sportsperson to receive the SJFI and DSJA ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award, joining the ranks of tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, badminton icon Prakash Padukone, cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar, and fellow sprinter Milkha Singh. Between 1977 and 2000, PT Usha’s career was a testament to her exceptional talent and perseverance. She clinched 103 international medals for India, showcasing her prowess on the global stage. Her remarkable achievements include four gold medals and seven silver medals in the Asian Games, alongside her participation in three editions of the Olympics.
