First Chairman of SEBI

Dr. S. A. Dave served as the first chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) from April 1988 to August 1990. He played a key role in laying the foundation for SEBI as India’s main market regulator. Before this, he held important positions such as Chairman of the Unit Trust of India (UTI) and Deputy Director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Current Chairperson of SEBI

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, born on July 8, 1965, is a retired IAS officer from the 1987 Odisha cadre. He became the 11th and current Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on March 1, 2025. Before this role, he served as Finance Secretary and Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
