Which is the Smallest Railway Station of Punjab?

Punjab has a vast railway network, connecting cities, towns and villages. While some stations are large and busy, others are busy with very few facilities. The smallest railway station in Punjab can be identified based on different factors such as the number of platforms, train frequency and passenger football. In this article, we will know about the smallest railway station of Punjab.

Smallest Railway Station of Punjab

Punjab has many railway stations, but the smallest one is Nawanshahr Doaba Junction in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. It has only one platform, few trains and basic facilities like drinking water and seating. The station is not electrified and mainly connects to Jalandhar City Junction, serving local passengers with limited railway station.

Location and Railway Division of Punjab’s Smallest Station

Nawanshahr Doaba Junction (station code: NSS) is part of the Firozpur railway division under the Northern Railway zone of Indian Railways. It is situated at an elevation of 256.3 meters (841 feet) above sea level.

Railway Tracks and Connectivity

This station is built on a single track and operates on a 5 ft 6 in broad gauge. The main railway line is the Phagwara-Nawanshahr line, which connects it to Jalandhar City Junction. Apart from this, two more railway lines branch out from this station:

  • Nawanshahr-Jaijon line
  • Nawanshahr-Rahon Line

Train Frequency

Nawanshahr Doaba Junction has low-frequency trains, meaning very few trains stop here. It mainly connects Nawanshahr to Jalandhar and other nearby areas. Due to fewer train services, it is considered one of the smaller railway stations in Punjab.

Significance of Nawanshahr Doaba Junction

Even though it is a small station with fewer train services, it is important for the local people of Nawanshahr and nearby areas. It provides connectivity for daily commuters, students, and travelers. The station plays a role in regional transport despite its limited size.
