Tamil Nadu Signs MoU to Implement PM SHRI School Scheme

The Tamil Nadu government has agreed to implement the PM SHRI Schools (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education in the state and align with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.

PM SHRI Schools Overview

1. Scheme Initiation:

  • Launched by the Government of India after approval from the Union Cabinet on September 7, 2022.

2. School Selection Criteria:

  • Over 14,500 existing schools nationwide will be designated as PM SHRI Schools.
  • Eligible schools include those managed by Centre/State/UT Governments/local self-governments with UDISE+ code.

3. Duration and Funding:

  • Operational from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
  • Total budget: Rs 27,360 crore, with the central government contributing Rs 18,128 crore.

Objectives of PM SHRI Schools Scheme

1. Exemplar Schools:

  • Showcase all aspects of the National Education Policy 2020.
  • Serve as models for other educational institutions to emulate.

2. Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide leadership within their communities and mentor other schools.

3. Environment-Friendly Infrastructure:

  • Develop schools with solar lighting, water harvesting, and conservation features.

4. Industry Integration:

  • Link curriculum with Sector Skill Councils and local industries to enhance employability and create better job opportunities.
