Tata Power has partnered with Noida International Airport (NIA) to supply renewable energy, investing Rs 550 crore in solar and wind power capacity development. This strategic move is part of Tata Power’s commitment to building sustainable infrastructure in India’s aviation sector. The collaboration will see the development of a 13 MW solar power facility and 10.8 MW of wind energy, powering NIA’s operations and contributing to the airport’s long-term sustainability goals.
Investment and Power Supply: Tata Power will invest ₹550 crore to develop 13 MW of solar and 10.8 MW of wind power for NIA. The renewable energy will contribute significantly to the airport’s clean energy needs.
Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs): Two PPAs were signed between Tata Power and NIA, with Tata Power Trading Company Ltd (TPTCL) managing the entire renewable energy interface for NIA. This will ensure consistent supply of renewable power through Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) assets.
Infrastructure Development: Alongside renewable energy, Tata Power will also develop essential electrical infrastructure, offering operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the next 25 years to ensure NIA’s energy efficiency.
Sustainability Goals: This partnership aligns with NIA’s vision of sourcing over half of its energy from renewable sources, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable airport operations. The first phase of the airport, with a capacity for 12 million passengers, is set to expand to 70 million passengers annually across four phases.
Long-Term Commitment: Tata Power’s 25-year agreement to supply renewable energy and maintain the infrastructure is a significant step in advancing India’s aviation infrastructure towards net-zero airports, supporting the government’s ambition of expanding airport capacity with environmental responsibility.
This collaboration not only addresses the immediate energy needs of Noida International Airport but also sets a precedent for India’s rapidly expanding airport infrastructure, with over 200 airports planned in the next two decades. Tata Power’s approach may serve as a model for sustainable energy integration across the aviation sector.
