Tejaswin Shankar Creates History with India's First-Ever Commonwealth Games Decathlon Medal
The Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar has created the history as he became the first Indian to win a medal in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games, and achieved the historic bronze medal in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. The national record holder performed exceptionally well with a total of 7,976 points in the 10-event decathlon despite suffering from a knee injury throughout the competition.
Tejaswin Shankar put in one of the most remarkable performances in Commonwealth Games history by winning a bronze medal in the men’s decathlon.
The 27-year-old made history as the first Indian athlete to win a medal in decathlon in Commonwealth Games history.
Tejaswin took part in the event, which lasted for two days, and managed to score 7976 points while getting through physical injuries and competing against tough global opposition.
The decathlon contains ten events of track and field performed over the span of two days and it judges various qualities of the athlete including speed, strength, endurance, agility, and technique.
Tejaswin was always in the leading group.
