Top-5 Semiconductors Manufacturing Countries in the World in 2025, Know About Them

Semiconductors are tiny chips that power all kinds of electronic devices like phones, computers and cars. These chips are very important for modern life, and only a few countries have the technology and factories to make them. In this article, we will look at the top-5 countries in the world that lead in semiconductor manufacturing and why they are so important in this field.

Top-5 Semiconductors Manufacturing Countries in the World

Semiconductors are tiny but powerful chips used in everything from smartphones and laptops to cars and TVs. Only a few countries have the advanced technology and factories to make these important components.

Here are the name of top-5 semiconductors manufacturing countries in the world in 2025:

  • Taiwan
  • South Korea
  • Japan
  • United States
  • China

Taiwan, World’s Semiconductor Manufacturer

Taiwan is the number one country in semiconductor manufacturing. It has 80 chip-making plants and controls around 68% of the global advanced semiconductor market. The main reason is TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), which alone holds over 50% of the world’s market.

Unlike companies that make chips only for their own devices, TSMC makes chips for many tech giants like Apple, AMD, Nvidia and Qualcomm. This model is called a foundry model.

South Korea

South Korea holds 17% of the global foundry market. Its biggest chip company, Samsung, is one of the world’s largest tech firms. Samsung produces chips for its own products (like phones and TVs) and also for other companies – making it both a foundry and a IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer).

The country has over 70 fabrication units and semiconductors are one of its top exports, making up about 15% of its total exports in 2021.

Japan

Japan may not lead in advanced chip production, but it is very important in the semiconductor industry. It has the highest number of semiconductors plants (103) and produces over 50% of the world’s semiconductor materials and 30% of the chip-making equipment.

Japan is also working to boost its chip-making capabilities with support from its government.

United States

The United States has 95 semiconductor plants and control about 12% of the global manufacturing capacity. However, it leads in chip design, with major companies like Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and NVIDIA designing powerful chips.

The U.S. also holds around 46% of the global semiconductor sales market, showing its strong influence in the industry even though most production is done overseas.

China

China has 81 chip factories and currently holds 8% of the global chip manufacturing share. It is aiming to grow fast, with plants to reach 25% of global chip sales by 2030.

China is investing heavily in its own chip-making abilities, with local companies like SMIC leading the way, though it still depends on other countries for high-end technology.
