The first edition of the IMT TRILAT exercise was conducted in October 2022, where the Indian Naval Ship INS Tarkash participated alongside the Navies of Tanzania and Mozambique.

Two-Phase Exercise

The current edition of the exercise is planned in two phases:

Harbor Phase (21-24 March)

  • INS Tir and INS Sujata will engage with the respective Navies at the ports of Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Maputo (Mozambique).
  • This phase will begin with a Planning Conference.
  • Joint harbor training activities like Damage Control, Firefighting, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) procedures, Medical Lectures, Casualty Evacuation, and Diving operations will be conducted.

Sea Phase (24-27 March)

  • Practical aspects of countering asymmetric threats, VBSS procedures, boat handling, maneuvers, and firing exercises will be covered.
  • A joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance is also planned.
  • The exercise will conclude with a joint debrief scheduled at Nacala (Mozambique).

Cultural Exchange and Training

  • During the harbor stay, the Indian Naval ships will be open for visitors.
  • Sports and cultural exchanges with host Navies are planned.
  • Training visits for sea trainees of the 106 Integrated Officers Training Course will take place at the respective ports.

The IMT TRILAT-2024 exercise aims to strengthen cooperation and interoperability between the Indian Navy and its counterparts from Mozambique and Tanzania in various maritime operations and procedures.
