UDAN Scheme: Transforming India’s Regional Air Connectivity

Why the scheme is in the news?

On April 21, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) launched the fifth phase of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) to enhance accessibility to India’s regional areas. The MoCA has released a bid document, inviting airlines to bid on various routes as part of the fifth round of bidding for its regional connectivity scheme UDAN.

Objectives: –

  • Operationalization and development of 425 underserved or unserved airports in the country
  • Boost inclusive economic development by providing faster connectivity
  • Development of air transport infrastructure in remote areas aiding job growth

The target of the Scheme: – Govt sets target to operationalize 100 airports by 2024

Beneficiaries: – Citizens of our country

Budget Allocation: – 1244 crore
