UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Mascot ‘Udai’ to Make Aadhaar Services More People-Friendly
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken a significant step towards improving public communication by launching the Aadhaar mascot named ‘Udai (उदय)’. The new mascot has been introduced as a resident-facing communication companion to help simplify and humanise Aadhaar-related information for citizens across the country.
Designed to be friendly, relatable, and easy to understand, Udai aims to bridge the gap between technology and people by explaining Aadhaar services in a simpler and more engaging manner.
The Aadhaar mascot will play a key role in explaining a wide range of Aadhaar-related services, including:
By using a mascot-driven approach, UIDAI hopes to make communication more inclusive, accessible, and citizen-centric, especially for first-time users, senior citizens, and people in remote areas.
To design and name the mascot, UIDAI adopted an open and participatory approach by launching national-level design and naming competitions on the MyGov platform. The initiative received an overwhelming response, reflecting strong public engagement with Aadhaar as a national digital identity.
A multi-tier evaluation process was followed to ensure transparency, fairness, and quality in the selection. The final mascot design emerged as a blend of public creativity and institutional refinement.
The mascot was officially named ‘Udai’, symbolising growth, progress, and empowerment, values closely associated with Aadhaar.
The mascot was unveiled by Neelkanth Mishra, Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India, at a UIDAI function held in Thiruvananthapuram. He also felicitated the competition winners during the event.
Mishra stated that the launch of Udai marks another important step in UIDAI’s mission to make Aadhaar communication simpler, more inclusive, and more relatable for over a billion residents of India.
Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, highlighted that inviting citizens to design and name the mascot reaffirmed a core Aadhaar principle—public participation builds trust and acceptance.
Meanwhile, Vivek C Verma noted that as a companion and narrator, Udai will help residents easily connect with Aadhaar-related information.
