UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Mascot ‘Udai’ to Make Aadhaar Services More People-Friendly

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken a significant step towards improving public communication by launching the Aadhaar mascot named ‘Udai (उदय)’. The new mascot has been introduced as a resident-facing communication companion to help simplify and humanise Aadhaar-related information for citizens across the country.

Designed to be friendly, relatable, and easy to understand, Udai aims to bridge the gap between technology and people by explaining Aadhaar services in a simpler and more engaging manner.

Purpose of the Aadhaar Mascot ‘Udai’

The Aadhaar mascot will play a key role in explaining a wide range of Aadhaar-related services, including:

  • Aadhaar updates and corrections
  • Authentication and verification processes
  • Offline Aadhaar verification
  • Selective sharing of Aadhaar information
  • Responsible and secure usage of Aadhaar
  • Adoption of new technologies linked to Aadhaar

By using a mascot-driven approach, UIDAI hopes to make communication more inclusive, accessible, and citizen-centric, especially for first-time users, senior citizens, and people in remote areas.

Open National Competition on MyGov Platform

To design and name the mascot, UIDAI adopted an open and participatory approach by launching national-level design and naming competitions on the MyGov platform. The initiative received an overwhelming response, reflecting strong public engagement with Aadhaar as a national digital identity.

  • Total entries received: 875
  • Participants: Students, professionals, designers, and creative enthusiasts from across India

A multi-tier evaluation process was followed to ensure transparency, fairness, and quality in the selection. The final mascot design emerged as a blend of public creativity and institutional refinement.
