At the 190th meeting of the ESI Corporation, Shri Yadav announced a number of initiatives that will boost Shram Jeevis’ social security and further the goal of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Atal BeemitVyaktikalyan Yojana benefits are now available for two additional years.

Unemployment benefits under ESIC extended by Labour Ministry: Key Points

  • ESI Corporation approved the proposal to extend the benefits provided by the Atal BeemitVyaktikalyan Yojana for an additional two years in order to help Insured Workers who lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
  • Benefits available under Atal BeemitVyaktikalyan Yojana are extended for two more years.
  • Atal BeemitVyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY) is a welfare programme that provides workers with up to 90 days of cash benefits once during their lifetimes in the event of unexpected unemployment.

Shri Bhupender Yadav instructed ESIC to place a focus on strengthening and expanding the medical services infrastructure by adopting multifaceted strategies for providing primary medical care to the IPs and their beneficiaries in anticipation of the significant increase in the number of Insured Workers and their dependents coming under the ambit of the ESI Scheme following the implementation of the Social Security Code – 2020.

Other Proposals approved by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)

  • ESI Corporation approved the proposals for the construction of 100-bed hospitals in Belagavi, Karnataka; Shamshabad, Telangana; Baramati, Rajasthan; Kishangarh, Ajmer, Rajasthan; and Balasore, Odisha; a 30-bed ESI Hospital in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh; and a 350-bed ESI Hospital in Greater Noida during the meeting (Uttar Pradesh).
  • In addition to this, it was agreed to take over the ESIS Hospitals in Gunadala, Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), and Maithan, Ranchi (Jharkhand) from the State Governments, as well as to expand the recently approved 30 bed ESIC Hospital in Rangpo, Sikkim to 100 beds.
  • To give employees and their families greater medical care and amenities, the newly taken over hospitals will be directly managed by ESIC.

ESIC made the decision to continue supporting North Eastern States & Sikkim financially in maintaining the ESI Scheme in light of the region’s sparse population, severe lack of private hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, etc., and financial situation of the ESI Scheme in North Eastern States. Beginning with the financial year 2023–2024, ESI Corporation will be responsible for paying all expenses in North Eastern States (except Assam) up to the allotted limit.
