Union Finance Minister Launches PM Internship Scheme Mobile App to Boost Youth Employment
Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, launched a dedicated mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) in New Delhi. The app is designed to streamline the registration and application process for aspiring candidates, providing them with real-time updates and an intuitive interface. This launch aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting employment, skilling, and opportunities for the youth.
The newly launched PMIS mobile app aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency in the internship application process. This initiative is expected to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations, thereby boosting youth employability in India.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the scheme is a crucial step towards nation-building, urging industries to actively participate in nurturing a skilled workforce. Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, also stated that the PMIS App will significantly improve accessibility to internship opportunities across sectors.
The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024-25 with an ambitious goal of providing internship opportunities to one crore youth in India’s top 500 companies over the next five years.
Before the full-scale launch, a pilot project was initiated in October 2024, targeting 1.25 lakh internship opportunities. The scheme has been rolled out in multiple rounds to ensure smooth implementation.
The government continues to encourage corporate participation, recognizing their role in providing meaningful training experiences to young professionals.
The scheme is designed to connect academic learning with real-world industry requirements, ensuring that young individuals are job-ready upon completion of their education.
By engaging youth in structured internships, the program aims to develop skill sets aligned with market demands, making India’s workforce more competitive on a global scale.
With over one crore internships planned, the scheme is expected to increase employment opportunities for young graduates and diploma holders across India.
Union Minister Sitharaman emphasized the need for active industry involvement, stating that companies can contribute significantly to nation-building by offering structured internship programs.
