According to the Central Electricity Authority’s latest data, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top state in terms of adding transmission lines by state transmission companies in 2023-24. This achievement follows its leading position in the previous fiscal year, 2022-23.
Top Performers in Transmission Line Additions
- Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) led the pack by adding 1,460 ckm of transmission lines of 220kV or above in 2023-24.
- Gujarat: Securing second place, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd (GETCO) added 898 ckm of transmission lines during the same period.
- Tamil Nadu: Following closely, Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO) secured the third spot with 753 ckm of added transmission lines.
- Andhra Pradesh: The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APTRANSCO) claimed the fourth position with 682 ckm of added transmission lines.
State Power Utilities Lead in Transmission Additions
- In the fiscal year 2023-24, state government-owned power companies collectively added 6,993 km of transmission lines, representing about 64% of the set target of 11,002 km for both private and state government entities.
- Major Contributors: UPPTCL accounted for over 20% of the total addition by state-run power utility companies, while GETCO contributed around 13% of the total.
