Cyber fraud is becoming one of the most rapidly rising digital threats in India as millions of citizens are being subjected to the different types of online frauds every year. As per the latest data published by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Uttar Pradesh has topped the list of states that received the most number of cyber fraud complaints in the India during the first half of 2026, as more than 12.7 lakh complaints filed in the country across the dates January and June, with the monetary loss crossing `10,178 crore.

India Records More Than ₹10,178 Crores Lost to Cyber Crime

The latest figures released by the Government have provided alarming facts related to the financial drawbacks of the cyber crimes in India.

In the period between January 1 and June 30 in 2026, there were 12.7 lakh complaints regarding cyber crime throughout the nation, including alleged losses worth more than €10,178 crore.

The figures highlight the need of the hour in terms of creating awareness about cyber crime and ensuring that individuals are reporting the incidents faster.

The 5 States Experiencing the Most Amount of Cyber Fraud Complaints

According to data from the Home Ministry, the states with the highest amount of cyber fraud cases are as follows,

1. Uttar Pradesh: 185,000
2. Maharashtra: 158,000
3. Karnataka: 121,000
4. Gujarat: 97,937
5. Bihar: 93,137

The above figures suggest that cyber fraud is not limited to one type of geographical orientation; both highly developed states and states undergoing rapid digitization suffer from the issue.
