Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History with Second-Fastest IPL Century
In only his third IPL match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an innings for the ages. Chasing the stiff target, he scored a century off just 35 balls, smashing 7 fours and 11 sixes, stunning the Titans’ bowlers with his extraordinary hitting. His strike rate remained off the charts, keeping Rajasthan firmly in the hunt. Unfortunately, he was bowled for 101 runs off 37 balls by Prasidh Krishna in the 12th over.
Nevertheless, the 35-ball hundred placed him second on the all-time list for fastest IPL centuries, behind only Chris Gayle. Vaibhav eclipsed Yusuf Pathan (37-ball century) and Abhishek Sharma (40-ball century) with his breathtaking knock.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Indian cricket witnessed the rise of a sensational young talent. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at just 14 years and 32 days old, became the youngest batter to score a fifty in T20 cricket during an IPL 2025 clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
Facing a daunting target of 210 runs, Vaibhav exhibited a fearless approach from the very first ball. Demonstrating remarkable composure and aggression, he hammered the fastest fifty of the ongoing season, reaching the milestone in just 17 balls.
He completed his fifty with a boundary off Washington Sundar at the end of the fifth over, sending the Jaipur crowd into a frenzy.
The left-handed batter shattered the previous record held by Hassan Eisakhil, son of former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi, who scored a fifty at 15 years and 360 days in the Shpageeza League 2022.
Moreover, Vaibhav broke the IPL record for the youngest player to hit a fifty, previously set by Riyan Parag (17 years and 175 days) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2019. Parag had surpassed the mark set by Sanju Samson (18 years and 169 days) in 2013.
Vaibhav had already scripted history earlier in the season by becoming the youngest IPL debutant at just 14 years and 23 days, featuring against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In a remarkable display of confidence, he launched Shardul Thakur for a six off the very first ball he faced, signaling his intent to the cricketing world.
Recognizing his immense potential early, the Rajasthan Royals had secured Vaibhav’s services for INR 1.10 crore during the IPL 2024 auction. Although he managed modest scores of 34 and 16 in his first two appearances, his blazing century against Gujarat Titans firmly justified the Royals’ faith in him.
