In a formal ceremony held at INS Shikra, the naval air station in Colaba, Mumbai, Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh took charge as the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command. The ceremony marked the transition of leadership from Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, who had been serving as the FOC-in-C.
Before assuming the prestigious position as the FOC-in-C of the Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh held the position of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. The change in command also sees Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi taking on the role of Vice Chief of Naval Staff at the Naval Headquarters.
Vice Admiral Singh, upon assuming command of the Navy’s Western Fleet, often referred to as the “Sword Army” of the service, paid homage to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation. A solemn ceremony took place at the Gaurav Stambh – Victory at Sea Memorial, located at the naval dockyard in Mumbai, where Vice Admiral Singh laid a floral wreath in honor of those who made the supreme sacrifice.
Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh is a distinguished graduate of the National Defence Academy in Pune. Commissioned in 1986 in the Navy’s executive branch, he boasts a remarkable career spanning 37 years. Throughout his service, Vice Admiral Singh has served on various classes of Navy ships, holding key command, training, and staff appointments.
Having specialized in navigation and direction in 1992, Vice Admiral Singh pursued further education, including the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom in 2000. His dedication to professional development is evident through his completion of the Naval Higher Command Course at Naval War College, Mumbai, in 2009, and the National Security Strategy Course at the National Defence College, Delhi, in 2012.
Vice Admiral Singh’s academic achievements include holding an MSc and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University, an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College, London, and an MA (History), MPhil (Political Science), and a PhD (Arts) from Mumbai University.
In recognition of his exemplary service, Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh was awarded the Nau Sena Medal in 2009 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020, reflecting his dedication, leadership, and significant contributions to the Indian Navy.
